Jail Weddings bring back soul with ‘Inconvenient Dreams’ EP
“If you have the good fortune to see this band live, you’re left hoping they’ll play at your wedding—or your funeral. Look out, soul is back.”

“Having seen Jail Weddings play only once is sort of like sitting in the front row of an IMAX theatre when you see a movie for the first time; just as one can not see the entire screen in their field of vision, I could not hear every sound being made. It was almost too much — though too much of a good thing is simply a very good thing in my book.”
Where do you all live now? Gabriel Hart: Feels like the practice space lately… I force myself to go there everyday after work and write. Anything…. even if it’s like ‘I will not go two months without washing my pants until they are so filthy that they somehow shine ever again!’ one hundred times on the chalkboard we have there. I am depressed. Brian Waters: Hancock Park-adjacent Melrose/Western area just [...]
“Jail Weddings take the ’60s soul revival sound to a whole ‘nother level — a darker, much more dangerous-sounding level.”
The name Jail Weddings reminds us of a time in the ’80s when Social Distortion’s Mike Ness, talking onstage about a recent stint in jail, thanked “all the homeboys and homegirls” he’d met there. “Jail Weddings will have you dancing on your feet in no time and wanting to go home with the random stranger next to you for fear of feeling lonely yet another night. This is desperation at its finest, brought straight from the heart and right through the veins.”
Jail Weddings, the 10-piece “death doo-wop” (I bet they’re going to be real tired of that tag soon) group from Los Angeles hydroplaned their way south to the Gypsy Lounge in Lake Forest last night. Led by Gabriel Hart (ex-Starvations) who, flanked by two buxom vocalists and backed by a band with all the usuals, plus a saxophonist, a violinist and a piano player, put on a show-stopping revue that [...]
Nine-piece band Jail Weddings were started by Starvations/Fortune’s Flesh singer/guitarist Gabe Hart and they played their first show last month. They will be releasing a 45 on Project Infinity. They speak from a gas station in Victorville on the way to Las Vegas. Singer Katya Hubiak, guitarist Brian Waters and saxophonist Brad Caulkins were not available at the time. Are Jail Weddings going to Vegas to get mass-married? Toney Love [...]
